Review of 2007

At the beginning of a New Year we can look back on 2007 and feel we have accomplished a great deal:

In March we completed purchase on Foundry House - we now own our community centre! To celebrate this we held a Fun Day on the Commons in May and launched the "Buy a Brick Campaign" to raise funds for the renovation of the building.

Foundry House Community Centre already forms a hub for the whole community and a base from which the community association can work.  Its use has grown considerably over this first year and rooms are available for hire. Plans have been drawn up and planning permission gained for its restoration.  For more information about the plans and a virtual tour go to About page

In late summer we held our 5th Pembroke Festival, our annual cultural festival showcasing local talent.  This year changes are to be made.  We are moving the Festival dates to June 19th - 22nd to coincide with the Seafair Haven Festival.  Please see our Festival Page for details.

Pembroke Farmers' Market has been established to promote local produce and encourage local shopping habits.  In June we held the first Potato Festival, a huge success which will be repeated this year.

We are also very much concerned with projects which celebrate Pembroke's significant heritage.  Progress has been made in our planned sculpture trail by sculptor Dave Petersen's community consultation about the proposed Princess Nest statue. In his talks and workshops, he involved schoolchildren and adults: an exhibition of the resultant work was held at the Town Hall in June.

Our Museum Project also advances - we are now waiting to hear the outcome of our HLF application.

On the environment front, much has been achieved in the regeneration of an area of ancient woodland bordering on the Pembroke Millponds.  Footpaths have now been completed around Holyland Wood, including a boardwalk through the reeds - early on 2008 trees are to be planted and a picnic area and car park (for disabled parking) will soon be completed.

So we have accomplished much and look forward to another year of progress and events.

Another achievement has been the launch of this Website - please browse through our pages for a fuller picture of Pembroke 21c Community Association, our projects and groups.
